Agenda:
17:45 - 18:00 - Warm welcome from Databricks, Alexander Thamm and Bull SAS
18:00 - 18:35 - Rachana Nagaraj, Data & Governance Engineer @ Körber, presents “A Unified Approach to Standardised Data Ingestion and Interactive Application Development on Databricks”Abstract: “In this presentation, we explore two foundational components of a modern Databricks platform: standardised data ingestion via Lakeflow Connect and interactive application development using Databricks Apps. We share our hands-on experience connecting data sources such as SharePoint, Jira, and Confluence, covering key architectural decisions and lessons learned. We further demonstrate how governed Delta tables can power simple yet effective user-friendly internal tools using Databricks Apps. The discussion focuses on practical insights and the potential for scaling these patterns within an organisation.”
18:35 - 19:10 - Alvaro Moure Prado, Data Engineer @ Mercedes-Benz, presents: "Scalable and Governed Processing of Vehicle Telemetry Data for Automotive R&D in a Multi-Region Cloud Platform"Abstract: "This presentation outlines the design of a cloud-native data platform for processing large-scale vehicle telemetry data to support R&D activities. We compare batch and streaming approaches within a medallion architecture, noting that batch processing is primarily used for scalability and cost efficiency, while streaming supports near real-time inspection needs. A multi-region setup leveraging Databricks and Delta Sharing is described, enabling governed cross-region access without unnecessary duplication, with local replication applied in cases of high egress cost or performance demands. We further highlight the use of Databricks sandboxes for quick exploration of development fleet telemetry and emphasize Unity Catalog as the foundation for platform-wide governance and compliance."
