🏈 Sometimes in football, the situation changes and you have to call an audible. We’re doing that for this month’s Omaha Databricks User Group. Due to a scheduling conflict, Sudhir Gajre will be presenting his session on working with unstructured data in Databricks at a future meetup. But the September 17th event is still on and I'll be covering something I worked on last month for a Databricks Community challenge and the lessons learned along the way.

Building an Effective Genie Agent: Six Lessons from Gridiron Genie

Gridiron Genie is an NFL matchup room I built on Databricks Free Edition for the Databricks Community Genie-Powered App Challenge.

During this session, I’ll use the project’s real architecture, decisions, failures, and fixes to explore six areas involved in building an effective Genie Agent that include:

1. A reliable data foundation

2. Clear metadata

3. Consistent business semantics

4. Curated examples and context

5. Governed access to the data

6. Repeatable evaluation and improvement

I’ll also show how Lakeflow Jobs, Declarative Automation Bundles, the Databricks Developer Hub, and AppKit helped turn the data and Genie Agent into a working application.
