The Melbourne Databricks Community is a community-led meetup for anyone interested in learning, exploring and building with Databricks.

The group brings together data engineers, analytics professionals, architects, AI and ML practitioners, business users, leaders, students and curious builders who want to understand what is possible with Databricks and learn from others working in the field.

Our goal is simple: create a friendly, practical and inclusive Melbourne community where people can connect, share knowledge, learn from real experience, and help each other build better data and AI solutions.

This is a community event, by the community and for the community, not a sales forum.

Whether you are deep in Unity Catalog, building pipelines, exploring Mosaic AI, modernising your data warehouse, experimenting with GenAI and Genie, learning Databricks for the first time, or simply trying to understand where the platform fits in your organisation, you are welcome.

What to expect

We meet monthly, usually in the evening, with in-person attendance preferred. From time to time, sessions may also be streamed online.

A typical meetup includes:

• Arrival, networking, food and drinks

• A presentation, technical talk, demo, panel or community show-and-tell

• Open discussion and Q&A

• More networking before close

The sessions are designed to be practical and useful. Expect real examples, lessons learned, product exploration, use cases, personal projects, technical deep dives, and honest conversations about what works, what does not, and what people have learned the hard way.

Topics we explore

The group covers a broad range of Databricks and data platform topics, including:

• Databricks Product deep dives (Lakehouse, UC, Mosaic AI, Delta Sharing, CustomerLake, GenieOne etc.)

• Data engineering, Data warehousing, Analytics, AI engineering, MLOps, Semantic Modelling, and more

• Industry use cases

• Product features and platform capabilities

• Certification, skills and learning pathways

• Personal projects and show-and-tell sessions

• Practical lessons from real implementations

How members can contribute

This community works best when members get involved.

You can contribute by suggesting topics, sharing use cases, presenting lessons learned, joining a panel, running a demo, helping organise events, sponsoring a venue, or simply attending and asking good questions.

You do not need to be a Databricks expert to contribute. Some of the best sessions come from people sharing what they are learning, what they are trying, and what they wish they had known earlier.
